Well Independence Day has come and gone. The passing of this holiday starts my internal teaching clock. So now it's time to start thinking about the upcoming school year. Part of me isn't ready to go back. There are entirely too many things going on in my home life that it's hard to even fathom going back. Luckily, I really do have over a month left.
Okay so the reason I am posting is because I would really ppreciate your help. Since I strted student teaching in 2009 I have toyed with a classroom decoration idea. My idea is to take several song lyrics and have them going around the top of the room. Just like (wallpaper) boarder. Being a high school teacher, it's a lot harder to impress the students. You have to stay current and be creative. By the time the students get to me, they've seen all the cutsie posters 100 times over.
Here is the (very small) list that I have so far:
"Be your best friend, tell the truth, and overuse I love you, Go to work, do your best, don't outsmart your common sense" (Lee Brice, Love Like Crazy)
baby you're a firework, Come on show 'em what your worth, Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!", As you shoot across the sky (Katie Perry, Firework)
If you wanna mke the world a better place, gotta take a look at yourself and make a change (Michael Jackson, Man in the Mirror)
In the ring of life I'll reign love, And the world will notice a king, When all is darkest, I'll shine a light, And use a success you'll find in me (R. Kelly, World's Greatest)
I'm that star up in the sky, I'm that mountain peak up high, Hey, I made it, I'm the world's greatest. And I'm that little bit of hope, When my back's against the ropes. I can feel it, I'm the world's greatest. (R. Kelly, World's Greatest)
There's always gonna be another mountain, I'm always gonna wanna make it move, Always gonna be an uphill battle, Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose. Ain't about how fast I get there, Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side, It's the climb. (Miley Cyrus, The Climb)
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to, Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small, You never need to carry more than you can hold, And while you're out there getting where you're getting to, I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too, Yeah, this, is my wish. (Rascal Flatts, My Wish) - I thought bout just taking this whole song around the room instead of several. Here is the link to the full lyrics. Full "My Wish" Lyrics
Any other suggestions would be greatly aprreciated. Please stay away from painfully overplayed and still annoying songs such as "I Hope You Dance" and the ever SO popular Vitamin C Song "Graduation Song (Friends Forever)"
Also, I would really love some ideas on how I will go about actually creating the border. I had a few ideas:
1. Cut bulliten board paper tall enough so that you could hand write the lyrics large enough to be seen from the student's seats.
2. The school has a poster maker that I could use but I'd be using alot of ink that isn't cheap
3. Use die cuts (i'm not sure we have letters large enough to be able to see from far away. It might be time to invest in a cricut.
Here is a picture of my (messy) classroom so you can see how much space I have bewtween the ceiling and top of the cabinets. I have cabinets on about 95% of the room. I don't have cabinets in the back by the fridge (pictured) and in the front of the room where my white board is. Sorry for the poor picture quality. I was messing with the settings on my camera to take a picture of a cake my kids decorated so I didn't intend to actually use this picture-which is why the lights are off.
Suggestions can be emailed, texted, or you can comment on the post (below) or on my facebook wall. Thank you so much for your help! Have a great day!
